News From Representative Layman 1-11-2019

Friday, January 11, 2019

Dear Friends and Neighbors,

This week I returned to St. Paul as the 2019 legislative session officially got underway on Tuesday. During a swearing-in ceremony with my colleagues in the House of Representatives, I took the oath of office and was officially sworn-in to continue serving as a state representative.

It really is an incredible honor to represent our communities at the Capitol, and I am truly grateful for your support and the trust you have placed in me. During my campaign we discussed many issues important to you including taxation, health care costs, broadband, and roads in our region that need repair or replacement. Here in St. Paul, I expect to take up all of those issues and more. I am looking forward to hearing your feedback and working with my colleagues to best represent our district and put forth solutions.

Legislative activity will pick up next week as we start a regular committee schedule and begin hearing bill proposals. One of the committees I will be serving on this year is the Greater Minnesota Jobs and Economic Development Finance Division, which directly pertains to the needs of our area. Together with chief author Rep. Rob Ecklund, I have already introduced a bill for continued broadband funding in rural Minnesota.  It is vital that we continue to invest in the infrastructure required to live our lives and do our work in rural communities. This committee assignment will give me the opportunity to continue advocating for these investments as well as other issues supporting the development of our economies in rural parts of the state.

As session gets going, I will have more information for you on the legislative happenings at the Capitol. In the meantime, please do not hesitate to call or email me with your thoughts and questions on any of the issues that will come before me in the coming months.

Have a great weekend,

Sandy
