Rep. Becker-Finn Appointed to Outdoor Heritage Council

Friday, January 15, 2021

SAINT PAUL, Minn. – On Friday, January 8th, Rep. Jamie Becker-Finn (DFL – Roseville) was appointed to the Lessard-Sams Outdoor Heritage Council by Rep. Rick Hansen (DFL – South St. Paul) Chair of the Environment and Natural Resources finance and Policy Committee. This will be Rep. Becker-Finn’s second term on the council, she was first appointed in 2019.

“I am honored to return to the Outdoor Heritage Council,” said Rep. Becker-Finn. “I look forward to continuing the critical work of protecting our environment. Our outdoor traditions are integral to who we are as Minnesotans and I hope to continue to preserve these traditions for our future generations.” Rep. Becker-Finn is a lifelong hunter and angler and is well known for her advocacy and promoting more engagement in hunting, fishing, and other outdoor activities.

In 2008, voters approved the Legacy Amendment, a constitutional amendment that raised sales taxes by three-eighths of one percent. The revenue is divided between four funds that are dedicated to restoring, preserving, and enhancing Minnesota’s natural resources and cultural heritage. Most of the Legacy Amendment funds are allocated biannually and thus were appropriated during the 2019 session. However, the Outdoor Heritage Fund is funded on an annual basis.

The Lessard-Sams Outdoor Heritage Council makes recommendations to the legislature to meet these constitutional objectives and ensure that they are consistent with the Constitution and state law.

Rep. Jamie Becker-Finn represents Little Canada, Gem Lake, Vadnais Heights, and parts of Roseville and Shoreview in the Minnesota House of Representatives. She is the Chair of the Judiciary and Civil Law Committee and serves on the Environment and Natural Resources Finance and Policy Committee.
