LEGISLATIVE UPDATE FROM REP. CAL BAHR - DISTRICT 31B

LEGISLATIVE UPDATE FROM

REP. CAL BAHR - DISTRICT 31B

Friday, July 30th, 2021 --

Today, the House of Representatives held an ethics hearing to discuss a complaint filed against Rep Thompson by Rep Lucero. The complaint was from a floor debate in which Thompson accused Lucero repeatedly of being a racist. Lucero filed an ethics complaint against Thompson for not observing the decorum of the House; 3 other State Representatives joined Rep Lucero in this complaint. The committee hearing was short and lasted only 20 minutes. Rep Thompson agreed to make a formal apology to the House on the floor, and a personal apology to Rep Lucero.

It is important to note that this issue is not related to Rep Thompson’s residency, which was brought into question after a July 4th traffic stop. During that traffic stop, it came to light that he had a Wisconsin Driver's license with a Wisconsin address, due to the fact he could not have a valid Minnesota license over an earlier failure to pay child support. A few hours after the traffic stop Rep Thompson’s Minnesota driving privileges were restored. This hearing was completely unrelated to the July 4th stop. No other formal complaint has since been made against Rep Thompson.
