Free and Fair Elections?

The rules were changed during the 2020 election contrary to Minnesota law. Don't miss this video if you want to hear the full story of what happened and how we are responding.

The Impact of HF 554 on the Cosmetology Industry

We have gotten a lot of responses and questions about my Cosmetology bill and I thought it would be good for you to hear a follow-up from me and from those who would have their very livelihoods changed.

We sat down with Nino Altobelli, Vice President of Rocco Altobelli Salons, and Lara Kelley, Owner of Minnesota School of Beauty, to discuss my cosmetology bill, HF 554, and the impact it would have on the industry.

This bill would get rid of the Minnesota Board of Cosmetology, and instead allow for salon licenses to be issued by local municipalities.

You can read the bill here: HF 554.

More importantly, click below to hear them explain what it means to them.

The Senate Companion bill, SF 691, was heard this last week in the Senate State Government Finance & Policy committee. While that does achieve some of our goals toward meeting deadlines, it was amended dramatically in that committee in ways that I do not support so our original House language is what I will present when it is heard in the House.

Outstanding Legislator Award

I was honored once again by the Legislative Evaluation Assembly for my work in conservative legislating in 2020.

LEA Plaque

In their words:

The Legislative Evaluation Assembly of Minnesota (LEA) is a non-partisan and non-profit organization, established to inform the citizens of Minnesota of both important legislation and the voting performance of each Minnesota state legislator. LEA bases its evaluation on our declared American founding principles of self-evident truths and inalienable rights. These principles provide a basis for a constitutionally limited government established to sustain life, liberty, justice, property rights and free enterprise. LEA encourages the use of the material in its Reports, in whole or in part, with attribution, by any group or individual.

LEA Award Winners

The LEA Annual Banquet was held on March 2nd and honored Representatives Steve Drazkowski, Eric Lucero, and Jeremy Munson, in addition to myself. We, and others who were honorable mentions, and all who seek to reduce the size of government intervention in our lives and our pockets, are going to keep pursuing those ideals.

Coming up Next Week

  • As we approach the first committee deadline - for policy committees to move legislation out to either a finance committee or to the floor for debate - there will be an extended period of time hearing legislation that needs to move to make those deadlines. I have requested that several of my own bills are in that group.
  • I have received a lot of calls and emails from my community about HF 604 - the mask mandate. Let me assure you that I do not support the mandatory wearing of masks and will be voting against any bill that would require you to wear one.
