Tuesday, January 8, 2019

SAINT PAUL, Minn. – Today, Rep. Rob Ecklund (DFL – International Falls) took the oath of office as state representative serving District 3A in the Minnesota House. The district includes much of Minnesota’s Arrowhead Region, including all of Cook and Koochiching counties and portions of Lake and St. Louis counties.

“I’m honored by the enormous trust my constituents have again placed in me with the responsibility of representing them at our State Capitol,” Rep. Ecklund said. “I look forward to the work ahead advancing solutions which truly expand opportunities for all Minnesotans to succeed and prosper.”

This session, Rep. Ecklund will take the helm as chair of the House Veterans Affairs Finance and Policy Division. In this role, he will help oversee the Minnesota Department of Veterans Affairs, including state veterans homes, and the Department of Military Affairs, as well as policy affecting veterans and service members.

“I’m grateful for the opportunity to chair this committee, and I’m committed to continuing the tradition of leading it in a bipartisan manner, delivering results for those currently serving and who have honorably served in the past,” said Rep. Ecklund, a veteran of the United States Marine Corps.

In the coming session, Rep. Ecklund plans to deliver on issues such as expansion of statewide broadband internet, creation of more good-paying job opportunities in northern Minnesota, robust investments in education at all levels, and improvements in the state’s transportation infrastructure.

In addition to his Veterans Affairs chairmanship, he will serve on the following House committees: Agriculture and Food Finance and Policy; Environment and Natural Resources Finance; Jobs and Economic Development Finance; Labor; and Ways and Means.

Rep. Ecklund was first elected to the House in a special election in 2015. Prior to that, he served over four years as a Koochiching County Commissioner. Outside the Legislature, he works at the Boise paper mill in International Falls and is a past president of the United Steelworkers Local 159. He and his wife Joan live in International Falls.

He encourages constituents to contact him on any issue. He can be reached at the Capitol by phone at 651-296-2190 or email at rep.rob.ecklund@house.mn.
