RELEASE: Rep. Ecklund applauds MnDOT’s announcement of Hwy 53 improvements

Thursday, December 20, 2018

SAINT PAUL, Minn. – On Wednesday, the Minnesota Department of Transportation (MnDOT) announced plans to improve Highway 53 between Cook and International Falls. The $7.2 million project will include four additional 2.5 mile passing lanes, a “reduced conflict” intersection at the south junction of Highway 1 and Highway 53, and a realignment of the north junction of the highways. The project aims to both improve safety and reduce congestion.

State Rep. Rob Ecklund (DFL – International Falls) released the following statement:

“I’m thrilled to hear the news about this important investment in our northern Minnesota transportation infrastructure. Many folks in communities along this corridor have worked very hard to advance this project and I congratulate them on making this a reality. We’ve seen too many collisions at these interchanges and on stretches of the highway where passing is difficult, putting travelers in danger. This investment will save lives, and I look forward to seeing it completed.”
