Statement from Rep. Nels Pierson re: Walz re-opening guidance

Wednesday, May 20, 2020

ST. PAUL – State Rep. Nels Pierson, R-Rochester, issued the following statement regarding the re-opening guidance released Wednesday by the Gov. Tim Walz administration.

“Churches are being left behind by the governor as plans to re-open other aspects of Minnesota continue,” Pierson said. “This is Exhibit A for how arbitrary and inconsistent his executive orders and guidance have been. While the governor is allowing bars, restaurants and salons to re-open at a slow pace, it is concerning that churches will remain under harsh restrictions with only 10 attendees allowed in the doors at a time. People have been working diligently to plan and implement new processes and procedures to allow them to safely re-open, even if not at full capacity. There was hope the governor would provide a clear path toward real growth on June 1. In reality, his announcement does not go anywhere near far enough to allow businesses to viably operate soon enough and does an injustice to churches and worshipers seeking to exercise their constitutional rights of assembly and religion.”
