Dear Neighbor,

People have been contacting me following a newsletter I sent yesterday, asking what is and isn’t allowed to be open with the governor’s stay-at-home order expiring this Monday.

The Minnesota Department of Employment and Economic Development indicates “All retail stores, malls and other businesses that sell, rent, maintain and repair goods can be open beginning on Monday, May 18 as long as they:

    • Have adopted and implemented a COVID-19 Preparedness Plan, including social distancing guidelines for workers and customers
    • Allow no more than 50% of the establishment's occupant capacity inside at any time”

Keep in mind private businesses may require more time to ramp up staffing and other operational needs. For example, the Mall of America has announced they will not be able to open until June 1st in order to provide more time for implementing safety measures and addressing staffing issues.

Locally, Rochester’s Apache Mall reports it will be opening on Monday.

I hope this helps to clear up some confusion. You may want to directly reach out to local businesses if you have any questions regarding the services they are providing and safety protocols they may have in place to protect customers and staff alike.

Please Contact Me

As always, I encourage you to please contact me with questions or opinions on any issue. You can reach me at 651-296-4378 or rep.nels.pierson@house.mn.
