Gov. Walz extends shutdown, yet again...

Friday, May 1, 2020

Dear Friends and Neighbors,

Minnesotans are increasingly becoming frustrated with Gov. Walz Great Minnesota Shutdown. I’m now receiving, on average, approximately 4-10 emails PER HOUR just from people within our community demanding an end to Gov. Walz’s shutdown. The total communications I’ve received far exceeds the number I’ve received on ANY OTHER ISSUE during my entire time in office, including other hot-button issues such as gun control, abortion, or tax increases! The below section in italics is just one example of the hundreds-upon-hundreds of communications I continue to receive:

Dear Representative Lucero:

The hardworking people of Minnesota can be trusted to earn an honest living -- and protect ourselves and others from COVID-19 -- without a statewide stay-home mandate.

This executive order is causing irreparable harm to our communities and our economy. Livelihoods have been lost, businesses have closed permanently, mental health has declined, important health care treatments and surgeries have been delayed, and hospitals are rapidly becoming insolvent.

The Minnesota Department of Health's own COVID-19 model indicates that older people and those with underlying conditions are most at risk, and that the current stay-home order will not save any lives compared to adopting a modest reduction in contacts until end of the epidemic.

Therefore, I am calling on you to do everything in your power as an elected official to end the current stay-home order for good when it expires on May 4th. State government must provide citizens, businesses, and workers with the necessary tools and guidelines to operate safely, but allow us to get back to work. Our families and communities depend on it!

Sincerely,

(Redacted)

HOUSE CONCURRENT RESOLUTION 10 (HC 10)

Tuesday this week I made a motion to bring House Concurrent Resolution 10 (HC 10) to the House Floor. I chief authored HC 10 which would have ended Gov. Walz’s unilateral power grab destroying the livelihoods of hardworking Minnesotans. Republicans voted unanimously in favor while the Democrat majority voted unanimously to kill my motion. Video of my remarks on the House Floor went viral on social media with over 9,000 views and counting. A copy of that video was uploaded to YouTube and can be viewed at the following link here.

SMALL BUSINESSES FIGHT BACK

Wednesday this week, a group of small businesses filed a lawsuit against the State of Minnesota asserting Gov. Walz’s deciding which business are critical vs. non-critical is unconstitutional under the U.S. Constitution’s Equal Protection Clause. Gov. Walz is in zero position to arbitrarily decide which list a business is placed on to remain open or not. More about the lawsuit can be found at the following link here.
