Dear Neighbors,

As Memorial Day weekend begins, please be sure to say a prayer for the men and women who lost their lives serving the United States of America. Memorial Day is a somber time, but it’s important to remember those who gave the ultimate sacrifice.

Our nation is forever indebted to these brave individuals and their families.

The COVID-19 crisis forced the legislature, understandably, to shift priorities and I look forward to getting back to St. Paul sometime in mid-June to work out a few items that remain unfinished. I'm hoping that things like a bonding bill, a tax bill addressing Section 179, and more will be negotiated and agreed to in the coming weeks.

Committee meetings this year were held via video conference and members voted remotely, over the phone, when legislation came to the House floor. It was strange to be in session with around 24 members in the House chamber instead of the usual 134.

I will also continue to push hard to end the Governor’s peacetime emergency powers. Now, more than ever, we cannot have a single person making unilateral decisions. Governor Walz MUST work with the legislature as we continue to respond to the COVID-19 outbreak and get more businesses open safely.

Have a good Memorial Day weekend,

Dave
