Rep. Lien votes for House Jobs and Local Projects Plan

Saturday, May 16, 2020

St. Paul, MN – Today, the Minnesota House of Representatives considered the House Jobs and Local Projects Plan, which would invest over $2.5 billion in important infrastructure improvements and job-creating local projects across the state. As it did not receive the constitutionally required three-fifths supermajority vote, the bill did not pass. State Representative Ben Lien (DFL - Moorhead) voted in favor of the legislation.

“This is a strong bill, not just for communities around the state, but also for Minnesota’s colleges and universities,” said Rep Lien. “It’s disappointing to see the bill fail in this form today, especially since it delivers on critical work like flood hazard mitigation projects - something we know to be incredibly important in the Red River valley. I remain committed to delivering these resources to Moorhead and Minnesota.”

Projects important to Moorhead and the surrounding region that are in the House Jobs and Local Projects Plan include the Moorhead Readiness Center, updates to Weld Hall at MSU Moorhead, grade separations, flood hazard mitigation, and more.

A full list of the projects proposed in the legislation can be accessed here. Video of the House Floor session will be available on House Public Information Services’ YouTube Channel.
