Rep. Halverson Highlights Nicotine Cessation Resources

SAINT PAUL, MN — As e-cigarette-related illnesses continue to be reported in Minnesota and across the nation, Rep. Laurie Halverson (DFL – Eagan) urged Minnesotans who want to stop smoking or vaping to utilize free resources to help find a plan that works for them. She provided a list of free nicotine cessation resources for people to consult when seeking support.

“Help is available for all Minnesotans who want to break free from nicotine addiction, including young people,” said Rep. Halverson. “Please consider seeking support from free programs and talk with your doctor about finding a plan that works for you.”

Rates of youth nicotine use have escalated rapidly in recent years.

Free nicotine cessation resources that are available in Minnesota include:

  • QUITPLAN Services offers a variety of tools for eligible Minnesotans, including phone counseling, text messaging, and nicotine replacement therapy. Visit www.quitplan.com or call 1-888-354-PLAN to learn more.
  • The American Indian Quitline connects people with coaches who understand and respect American Indian culture and traditions. Call 1-888-7AI-QUIT to receive support.
  • The Asian Smokers’ Quitline provides one-on-one phone counseling and other services. Visit asiansmokersquitline.org for more details.
  • Smokefree Español provides information and free resources in Spanish. More information is available at http://espanol.smokefree.gov.

 

  • Truth Initiative is targeted towards teens and young adults who want to stop using e-cigarettes. Text “DITCHJUUL” to 88709 to be connected with resources.
  • Smokefree Teen is a free resource for teenagers. More information is available at Teen.Smokefree.gov.
