Legislative Update (January 11, 2019)

Friday, January 11, 2019

Dear Neighbors,

The 2019 session is underway and I am honored to be your voice in St. Paul. Here’s a short update from the first week.

Session Starting

Although it’s the start of my fourth term, the humbling feeling of being sworn-in never gets old. I’m extremely grateful to continue my service to the people of our community. I will continue to be a watchdog for taxpayer dollars and will be a voice for common sense and good governance in St. Paul. This session I will be serving as the Republican lead on the House’s State Government Finance Division, and will also serve on Health and Human Services Policy, Rules and Legislative Administration, and Ways and Means.

If you’re planning to be in St. Paul in the next couple months, please let me know; I’d love to take you over to the Capitol if possible.

New Laws in Effect

In addition to the beginning of a new calendar year, January 1 brought our state some new laws. On January 1, 2019, a handful of laws passed during the 2018 legislative session went into effect. These new laws address various issues, including reinsurance organizations, identity theft, PTSD for public safety personnel, waste collection systems, MA reimbursement rates, and step therapy.

If you’d like to see a full list of the new laws that took effect on January 1, please click on the following link: https://www.house.mn/hinfo/leginfo/0119nlrelease.pdf.
