Schools receiving $30 million in safety funding

Wednesday, October 9, 2019

ST. PAUL – State Rep. Joe McDonald, R-Delano, announces school districts throughout Minnesota are receiving a combined $30 million from the state to fund safety initiatives.

The supplemental aid must be used for expenditures as authorized under the Safe Schools Levy. This includes a wide variety of facility and programming purposes such as police liaison services, counseling, school security, gang resistance education training and other crime prevention and safety measures for students and staff.

“Nothing is more important than our children’s safety at school,” McDonald said. “I am confident that our school districts will continue to do everything possible to ensure our kids’ safety. I was very pleased to support the Safe Schools Levy.”

The money comes from a one-time Safe Schools Supplemental Aid appropriation in the state’s new education budget. The $30 million will be provided to school districts and charter schools on a per-pupil basis. All school districts in McDonald’s House District 29A will receive funding, including Buffalo-Hanover-Montrose ($200,288), Delano ($86,651), Dassel-Cokato ($77,913), Annandale ($65,202) Rockford ($58,617), Watertown-Mayer  ($54,600), Howard Lake-W-W ($42,629) and Maple Lake ($29,474).
