SAINT PAUL, Minn. – Tuesday, the Senate Finance Committee adopted legislation calling for a five percent across-the-board state budget cut.
Rep. Rena Moran (DFL – Saint Paul), chair of the House Committee on Ways and Means, issued the following statement:
“Minnesotans are facing remarkable challenges as a result of COVID-19 and the economic crisis that followed. The pandemic has highlighted just how much we all count on great schools, excellent health care, and the ability for each and every Minnesotan to have economic security, no matter where you live or what you look like. We have the capacity to not only protect these critical investments in our future, but to expand them. Instead of investing in Minnesotans, Republicans are choosing arbitrary, indiscriminate and harmful cuts to Minnesotans’ health care, education and economic security, which will weaken our recovery and set our state backward when the moment we're in requires the state to step up and help families, businesses, and students to succeed and thrive.”
