February is Black History Month, giving us an opportunity to reflect on the accomplishments of Black Americans and our contributions to the culture of our community, state, and nation. While we look back upon the past, we can’t keep our eyes off the real work we need to accomplish to remove inequities wherever we find them and ensure Black Minnesotans have the opportunity to succeed and thrive.
Yesterday, I was excited to join my nine colleagues of the United Black Legislative Caucus to announce our 2021 Legislative Agenda. The challenges facing Black Minnesotans are numerous, persistent, and urgent, and have been greatly compounded by COVID-19’s impacts on their health and economic security. Black Minnesotans deserve bold progress to eliminate disparities rather than the incremental changes we’ve been forced to settle for over the course of many decades. This agenda represents actions lawmakers can take this year to ensure everyone can share in our state’s success. I invite you to watch our press conference on YouTube.
The UBLC has a new Facebook page which I encourage you to like or follow. To help launch the page, you’re invited to join us for a Community Conversation about the 2021 Legislative Agenda this coming Saturday, February 13 at 11 a.m. Everyone is welcome!
Please feel free to reach out throughout the session to share your feedback, offer your ideas, or let me know if I can be of help. It’s an honor to represent you.
