Legislative Update from Rep. Glenn Gruenhagen

Friday, December 11, 2020

Dear Neighbors,

On Thursday, the Minneapolis City Council passed a new city budget that cuts police funding by $8 million. This shocking move comes at a time when Minneapolis is seeing skyrocketing crime rates. For instance, carjackings alone were up 537% last month.

Sadly, Democrats on the Minneapolis City Council believe the best response to this enormous spike in crime is to slash funding away from the brave men and women that are sworn to protect the city.

This is just the latest example of Democrats showing that they are out of step with the priorities of Minnesotans. As for myself, I will continue to advocate for common-sense solutions to the problems facing our state.

While city and county law enforcement policies are broadly set at the local level, there are common sense things we have tried to do at the state level to push back against radical proposals from Democrats that would put our communities in danger. This includes voting for legislation that would prevent localities from disarming the police.

Please be sure to thank the police officers in your life. They sacrifice much to protect our communities and deserve our support.

Please be sure to reach out to me if you have any questions. I will do my best to keep you updated as we prepare for the 2021 legislative session, set to begin in early January. I can be reached by phone at 651-296-4229 and rep.glenn.gruenhagen@house.mn

Have a great day,

Glenn
