Rep. Fabian Statement on Letter Requesting a State Funeral Honoring WWII Veterans
St. Paul – Representative Dan Fabian, R-Roseau, along with 43 other State Representatives, sent a letter to President Donald Trump Monday requesting that he designate a state funeral for the last World War II Medal of Honor recipient in honor of all World War II veterans.
“The Medal of Honor is our nation’s highest military award for valor, and we want to honor that, along with the sacrifice of every other World War II veteran,” said Rep. Fabian. “With only a few living World War II Medal of Honor recipients left, having a state funeral for the last surviving recipient would be the perfect way to honor all 353 World War II Medal of Honor recipients, as well as the more than 16 million members of the Armed Forces during World War II. We are losing many World War II veterans every single day, and we want to honor the courage and heroism of the Greatest Generation’s veterans.”
There are currently only three surviving World War II Medal of Honor Recipients: Charles Henry Coolidge, Francis Currey, and Hershel Williams. Robert Dale Maxwell, then the oldest Medal of Honor Recipient, passed away in May.
