Legislative Update (January 11, 2019)

Friday, January 11, 2019

Dear Neighbors,

On Tuesday, the 2019 legislative session officially began. The day’s events featured a swearing-in ceremony as all 134 members of the House of Representatives took the oath of office. Being sworn-in is a great reminder that it is an extraordinary privilege to represent our community in the legislature. I’m honored to serve as our area’s voice at the Capitol, and hope you’ll contact me throughout the session to share your ideas and suggestions.

I am excited to get back to work on the things that matter most to our community. This is an important time for our state, and the legislature will face important decisions concerning healthcare costs, tax relief, and transportation infrastructure. I look forward to working with my colleagues and hearing your feedback in order to provide solutions to these issues and best represent our district.

Committee Assignments

Legislative work will get underway next week as House committees being regularly meeting and considering bills. Committees are where a lot of the nuts and bolts of “lawmaking” takes place. Members will debate the fine details of bills, offer amendments, and hear testimony from the public in order to best understand how proposed legislation will affect our state.

This year I have been assigned to serve on the Judiciary Finance and Civil Law Division, the Education Policy Committee, and the Ways and Means Committee. Each committee presents different challenges and opportunities, and in each instance, I will make sure I advocate for policies that best serve hardworking taxpayers and families.
