Honoring Our Veterans

Monday, November 11, 2019

Hello from the State Capitol,

On this Veterans Day, I wanted to take this opportunity to thank all of our active and retired military personnel for their service to our country, and remember a veteran we recently lost.

Just days ago I was honored to attend the Star placement for WWII Veteran Jean L. DeCurtins, Stillwater A and D Last Man’s Club of the 135th Infantry, Minnesota National Guard.

Jean DeCurtins passed away in August at the age of 100. The ceremony was conducted by facility Commander Major Lewanski and public facility tours provided by Staff Sergeant Hartman.

To be honest, we should be thanking our veterans every day, not just once a year. At a time when many of our young men and women continue protecting our interests overseas, we sometimes lose sight of the duty and sacrifice of the many individuals who make up our military.

The recent news regarding the Special Ops raid that killed ISIS leader Abu Bakr al-Baghdadi serves as a good reminder that brave men and women continue to fight for our freedoms each and every day.

We all know families in our communities whose brothers or sisters, dads, moms and children are in the military. We pray for their safety.  But we should also thank them for their sacrifice in helping making America more secure.

Hundreds of veterans call our area home. If you have some free time today, I’d encourage you to let these brave men and women know that their service was greatly appreciated. Without the commitment of our troops and their families, we would not enjoy the daily freedoms we so often take for granted.

To all of our veterans: Thank you for a job well done.

Sincerely,

Bob
