Legislative Update - September 13, 2019

Friday, September 13, 2019

Dear Neighbors,

My colleagues and I are hosting a series of community conversations about making insulin and prescription drugs more affordable. If the skyrocketing cost of insulin and prescription drugs has impacted you or your loved ones, we’d like to hear about your experience so we can find solutions that work for you.

The first community conversation took place a few weeks ago at the State Capitol. Many Minnesotans shared moving stories with the legislators in attendance. I encourage you to listen to what they had to say. Video of the event is available here.

We wanted to give more Minnesotans the opportunity to share their stories and ideas, so we’re holding more community conversations throughout the state this fall. The next one is on Monday, September 16 at the Diamondhead Education Center in Burnsville. I hope you can join us as we work towards solutions.

Women’s Suffrage Day

The League of Women Voters, along with a host of others, put on a wonderful program to commemorate the efforts of women who fought to expand the right to vote. I really enjoyed the speeches of several women who were the first or among the first to hold various positions. It was inspiring to hear the stories of former elected officials who paved the way for those of us who are currently serving.

The women to my right are State Auditor Julie Blaha, the fourth woman in a row to serve in that position, and Josie Johnson, a civil rights leader.

Women’s Suffrage Day is a celebration of how far we’ve come in the 100 years since Minnesota ratified the Nineteenth Amendment, but it also reminds us that there’s still much to do. I’m committed to continuing my work on gender equality.

Thank you for the privilege of serving our community. Please don’t hesitate to contact me with questions or feedback.

Sincerely,

Sandra Masin
State Representative
