Legislative Update - September 6, 2019

Friday, September 6, 2019

Dear Neighbors,

Best wishes to the students and parents who’ve recently started a new school year! I’d also like to thank all of the teachers and staff who help Minnesota students learn new skills, gain valuable life experiences, and reach their academic goals.

This year, my colleagues and I passed a budget that invests in Minnesota students. Every public school will see a two percent increase in per-student funding this year and the year afterwards. We secured funding for pre-K opportunities for our youngest learners and special education services. There’s more work to be done to ensure that all students receive the world-class education they deserve, but these investments put our state on the right track.

Minnesota State Fair

We’re fortunate to have such a great state fair in Minnesota. I hope you had a chance to enjoy it! I had a wonderful time talking with fairgoers at the House of Representatives booth. Many thanks to those of you who stopped by for a visit and took the annual poll. Here are some of the notable results:

You can read more about the poll and how this year’s findings compare to past results here

Legislator of Distinction

The League of Minnesota Cities recently named me as a Legislator of Distinction. This award is given to lawmakers who successfully work with local officials to meet the unique needs of their community. It was an honor to receive this recognition.

More information about the award is available here.

Burnsville Fire Muster and Community Celebration

The Burnsville Fire Muster kicked off on Wednesday! I encourage you to join me tomorrow at 11 a.m. for the annual parade and stick around for the afternoon activities. There will be live music, children’s activities, and demonstrations from firefighters and law enforcement professionals. A full schedule is available here.

Women’s Suffrage Day

On Sunday, the League of Women Voters is holding a free event to commemorate the 100th anniversary of Minnesota’s ratification of the Nineteenth Amendment, which expanded voting rights for women. I’m looking forward to celebrating this historic day! You can learn more about this event here.

As always, please don’t hesitate to contact me if you have any questions or concerns.

Sincerely,

Sandra Masin
State Representative
