Legislative update - October 16, 2019

Wednesday, October 16, 2019

Dear neighbors,

I’m on the road with the Legislative-Citizen Commission on Minnesota Resources (LCCMR) right now participating in site visits in southeast Minnesota. Take a look at our itinerary here and enjoy this brief update.

2019 Governor’s Pheasant Hunting Opener
It was an honor to participate in the 2019 Governor’s Pheasant Hunting Opener -- the first of Governor Walz’s term in office. Held in Austin this year, more than 150 hunters participated in the annual tradition, and hundreds more attended a community banquet with local leaders. Established in 2011, the purpose of the event is to focus on Minnesota’s hunting heritage, cultural traditions, and the economic impact of the sport, as well as to generate associated travel and tourism. Congratulations to Governor Walz, the greater Austin community, and everyone who participated and made the gathering a success. The Austin Daily Herald has a story and photos here

Recycling Association of Minnesota Awards Ceremony
Every year, the Recycling Association of Minnesota recognizes recycling, environmental, and public service efforts from individuals, businesses, and organizations throughout Minnesota. This year, I was selected as the recipient of its 2019 Public Service Award. This award recognizes an elected official who has demonstrated outstanding service for the betterment of recycling and resource conservation. I’m grateful for the Recycling Association’s important work and touched that they selected me to receive this award.

LCCMR Site Visits
After spending yesterday touring sites in the Twin Cities, I’m with the LCCMR in southeast Minnesota today for the conclusion of our travels around the state to listen to Minnesotans in their own backyards about the things they care about. The stories and information we’ve gathered will be used to develop the LCCMR’s strategic plan for 2020-2026. If you haven’t already done so, you can share your perspective in a short survey here

As always, please feel free to contact me with any questions or feedback.

Sincerely,

Rick Hansen
State Representative
