Minnesota’s Stay Home order expires May 18th, new Stay Safe order takes effect: What it means for you, your family, and your business

Friday, May 15, 2020

Rep. Poppe

Dear Neighbors,

As a result of sacrifices made by workers, businesses, and families to prevent the spread of COVID-19, Minnesota was able to increase hospital capacity and prepare for the peak of the pandemic. We are now beginning to safely and gradually re-open our economy while continuing to follow public health guidelines to contain the spread of the virus.

Beginning May 18th, retail stores and main street businesses can reopen if they create a social distancing plan and operate at 50 percent capacity, and Minnesotans can gather with friends and family in groups of 10 or less with safe social distancing practices in place. In addition, Minnesota will soon finalize guidance on how to safely reopen bars, restaurants, barbershops, and salons as soon as June 1st.

Poppe stay safe

This new phase of Minnesota’s response to COVID-19 brings with it badly needed economic relief for individuals who have lost their jobs and small businesses that have closed. The fight against this virus is not over, and its impact on our communities will be long lasting.

It’s now up to all of us to continue showing that we care for our nurses, doctors, first responders, and vulnerable Minnesotans by taking personal responsibility to socially distance, wear masks, frequently wash our hands, and stay close to home.

Please contact my office for answers to your questions about programs that help small businesses, unemployed workers, and families impacted by COVID-19. You can send an email to rep.jeanne.poppe@house.mn or leave me a voicemail by calling 651-296-4193.

The Legislature continues to work in partnership with Gov. Walz and the people of Minnesota to re-open our state in a way that is safe and doesn’t lead to loss of life. We're also taking action to provide new assistance for our farmers and producers. The 2020 session adjourns in just a few days on May 18th, 2020.

Thank you for everything you are doing to prevent the spread of COVID-19. The best place to get fast and accurate information about the pandemic is www.mn.gov/covid19.

Sincerely,

Jeanne Poppe
