TOMORROW: House Transportation Committee to tour proposed bus rapid transit routes in St. Paul and Minneapolis

Wednesday, June 10, 2020

St. Paul, MN – Tomorrow at 1:00-3:00 p.m., members of the House of Representatives Transportation Finance and Policy Division will tour parts of the routes of proposed new bus rapid transit lines in St. Paul and Minneapolis. Members of the press are invited to attend a short program at 1:30 p.m. featuring the Metropolitan Council, various businesses, and city officials in the parking lot of the Minneapolis Target Store on Lake Street.

"Bus rapid transit is one of the keys to the economic recovery of Minneapolis and St. Paul," said Rep. Frank Hornstein (DFL-Minneapolis), Chair of the House Transportation Finance and Policy Division. “Better mobility along the corridor will help ensure greater equity, create and sustain jobs, and provide for a higher quality of life for neighborhood residents and the metro region. There is an urgent need that the B and D Lines be included in a Local Jobs and Projects bill.”

The B line connects downtown St Paul to Uptown Minneapolis via Marshall and Lake Streets and the D line runs from Brooklyn Center to the Mall of American via Fremont Avenue North and Chicago and Portland Avenues South.

These BRT lines were included in the House Capital Investment bill, but not in the Minnesota Senate’s version.
