Rep. Pelowski named chair of House Industrial Education and Economic Development Finance and Policy Committee

Tuesday, December 1, 2020

St. Paul, MN - Yesterday, the Minnesota House DFL announced the committee structure and chair assignments for the 2021-2022 biennium. State Representative Gene Pelowski (DFL - Winona) will serve as chair of the House Industrial Education and Economic Development Finance and Policy Committee.

“The charge of this committee is to create a Minnesota Model to better ensure that every high school senior in Minnesota has the option of graduating not only with a traditional high school diploma, but with an employable skill set as well,” Representative Pelowski stated.

The committee’s directive is a product of the October 2019 Winona Mini-Session of the Minnesota House of Representatives. A hearing during the Winona Mini-Session proposed legislation for Winona State University’s Education Village, which would partner with Minnesota SE Technical & Community College in recreating the licensure and certification program needed for the next generation of Industrial Technical Teachers for Minnesota’s High Schools. This will be one of the key pieces of legislation considered by the committee in the 2021 legislative session.

The committee will also be charged with overseeing the state’s broadband and disaster assistance accounts, both issue areas being carried over from Rep. Pelowski’s current purview as chair of the House Greater Minnesota Jobs and Economic Development Finance Division.

Full membership of House committees will be announced later this month. The 2021 legislative session convenes on January 5.
