Neighbors and Friends,

Our communities have experienced turmoil and distress since May 25, when George Floyd was murdered by Minneapolis police. Sen. Marty, Rep. Lesch, and I would like to invite you to join us for a District 66 Virtual Town Hall next Tuesday, June 9 at 5 p.m. to discuss policing reform and transformation and how we move forward to create a more just Minnesota for everyone. We will review legislative changes addressing police brutality and racist policing.

We still plan to hold a post-legislative session town hall, but this is an issue that needs immediate attention.

This virtual town hall will be streamed via Facebook live on Rep. John Lesch’s Facebook page, in order to allow as many people as possible to participate without spreading coronavirus.

You can RSVP to this virtual event here: https://www.facebook.com/events/3154463284610444/.

We will monitor the Facebook comments for your questions and perspectives during the event. Still, we encourage constituents to email their town hall questions and comments to sd66iq@mnsenate.lmhostediq.com with the subject "6/9 Town Hall question" ahead of the event, in order to make sure more of your points get addressed.

Our colleagues in the People of Color and Indigenous (POCI) caucus this week released their legislative response to the murder of George Floyd. You can watch their press conference, or read an overview of their proposals.

We will likely be discussing these proposals in an upcoming special session.
