Neighbors and Friends,
The 2020 Legislative Session will begin on February 11. A major focus of this shorter session will be passage of a bonding bill to address growing infrastructure needs around the state. This fall, we welcomed the Capital Investment committee to tour several of our local projects, including the International Institute, Gibbs Farm expansion and the Minnesota Oval in Roseville. I will advocate for our projects as this process moves along.
You are invited to the District 66 Town Hall on Saturday, February 8 at 10 a.m. at the Falcon Heights City Hall. I hope you will join Sen. Marty, Rep. Lesch and me to discuss upcoming session priorities.
Here is more from the Capitol:
Gov. Walz rolls out Housing plan
Thursday morning, Gov. Walz unveiled his local jobs and projects plan. The first of four packages announced yesterday will make major investments in safe and affordable housing. As chair of the Housing Policy and Finance Division, we will craft our own version of a bill aimed at helping to alleviate the persistent issue of homelessness in Minnesota. I will work closely with advocates, legislators and the governor’s team to move forward on solutions.
HUD Secretary proposing rule to weaken enforcement of housing laws
The Washington Post has reported the Trump administration is proposing a new rule that will weaken fair housing laws. I will be monitoring how the change will impact Minnesota.
Visitors to the Capitol
Last week, I was delighted to receive a visit from two Brimhall Elementary 3rd graders who interviewed me for a class project about the duties of a state representative. The students asked detailed questions and seemed quite interested in our role at the Capitol.
