Neighbors and Friends,
I’ve been talking to a lot of my friends, colleagues and neighbors recently and one thing we all agree on is that our calendars are filling up quickly. When the seasons change, there are so many activities to attend and plans to make.
Here is an update from the Capitol:
Dispute Resolution Institute symposium
Last week, Mitchell/ Hamline School of Law held the Dispute Resolution Institute symposium in St. Paul and I served as a panelist for An International Conversation about Alternate Dispute Interventions. The panel and participants worked in large and small groups to identify and prioritize issues regarding eviction, poverty and other collateral consequences.
Experts from across the nation were invited to discuss and explore these complex issues thoroughly.
Passenger rail service to Duluth, Chicago
Minnesotans could take a train from the Twin Cities to Duluth if rail advocates can secure legislative and federal funding. In a Star Tribune article this week, backers say expansion can only happen if the legislature approves funding of the Duluth route and a second train to Chicago. As a long time rail advocate, I was asked to comment on both of these routes in the article.
Cold Weather Rule
Starting October 15, Minnesotans now have protection from getting their heat shut off if they have difficulty paying their bills. The Cold Weather Rule and Energy Assistance Program are in effect to help ensure that low income Minnesotans will not lose heat during the cold weather. Learn more here.
DNR fall leaf report
Here is this week’s fall leaf report if you’re heading out this weekend to enjoy our beautiful autumn colors.
