Legislative Update - September 11, 2019

Wednesday, September 11, 2019

Neighbors and Friends,

The season is changing and I hope you are enjoying Minnesota’s great outdoors! Here is an update from the Capitol:

School Bus Safety

Children are back in the classroom and now is the time for a refresher on safe driving when school buses are back on the road. Please take a moment to read this important information from the Minnesota Department of Public Safety on what we can do as motorists to protect our children when they head to and from school each day.

State Fair Poll

The results are in from the 2019 State Fair poll at the House of Representatives booth. A broad list of questions were asked, ranging from support for criminal background checks on all gun sales to allowing convicted felons who have served their time the ability to vote and whether elementary school children should be taught cursive writing. DNR seeks citizen input

The Minnesota Department of Natural Resources is seeking citizens to serve on committees that review how the DNR spends game and fish dollars. At least 12 people are needed for the Fisheries Oversight and Wildlife Oversight committees. Applications are being accepted until Friday, September 20, online at the DNR’s Game and Fish Fund Budgetary Oversight webpage.

Opening for EQB board member

Applications are now open for a 4th Congressional District member on the Minnesota Environmental Quality Board. The board plays a key role in providing perspectives and representation from around the state on environmental issues. More information can be found here. To apply, click here.
