Legislative Update- August 6, 2021

Friday, August 6, 2021

Dear Neighbors,

I hope you have been able to watch some of the Olympics this summer. It was so exciting to watch Suni Lee win the all-around gymnastics gold medal! Suni made history by being the first Hmong American to compete in the Olympics and she made us all very proud in Minnesota! Along with her teammate Grace McCallum, Minnesotans made up half of the U.S. women’s team that brought home the silver medal.

Here is an update from the Capitol:

Advocating for Frontline Workers

The Frontline Worker Pay Working Group has met three times this month. The nine-member bipartisan working group is made up of appointments from the House, Senate and Governor’s office. The group has been listening to workers to determine how to allocate the $250 million the legislature secured to support the essential workers in our communities who face heightened risks of exposure to COVID-19. You can learn more about the Frontline Worker Pay Working Group’s progress from Minnesota Public Radio here.

Frontline workers have risked their own health to keep the rest of us safe and healthy during the pandemic. They deserve to be compensated for their sacrifices and hard work. We have more to do in this area. I will do what I can to ensure workers are at the center of the plan we develop. Please feel free to share your thoughts with me about which workers you would like to see prioritized for this pandemic relief.

Thank you, Neighbors!

It was great to connect with so many community members on National Night Out this week. I enjoyed listening to the Irondale High School Band and many others sharing their musical talents with our neighbors. I also had the privilege of helping a local area Boy Scout earn his scouting badge by interviewing his legislator. Hearing and learning from you is the best part of representing our communities at the State Capitol. I am grateful for this privilege every day.

So grateful for all our police officers and firefighters do to keep us safe.
