Rep. Connie Bernardy Sworn-in to Minnesota House for Seventh Term

Tuesday, January 8, 2019

ST. PAUL, MN – Today, Representative Connie Bernardy (DFL-New Brighton) was sworn into office for her seventh non-consecutive term to represent the communities of Fridley, New Brighton and Spring Lake Park at the Minnesota House of Representatives.

Committee structures and leadership roles were assigned after House DFLers took the majority following the 2018 election. Among these designated last month, Rep. Bernardy will chair the Higher Education Finance and Policy Committee, working to find solutions on college affordability, student loan debt relief and expanding post-secondary technical and trade school opportunities.

“I’m so honored and humbled that the community in which I grew up has placed their trust in me once again to represent them at the Capitol,” said Rep. Bernardy. “One of our community values is education. Serving as the Higher Education Chair, I look forward to working on access to affordable and quality post-secondary education opportunities that meets their career and life goals. I’m ready to work with Minnesotans and my legislative colleagues to better serve students and families across the state.”

Rep. Bernardy will also serve on the following committees: Ways and Means, Transportation Finance & Policy Division, Property and Local Tax Division, and Elections. She has also been appointed to the Legislative Audit Commission and Regent Candidate Advisory Council.

“Our shared values as Minnesotans bring us together and serve as a guide for how we move forward — and how we make our state work better for all of us. I’ll continue to work hard to ensure everyone has accessibility to healthcare, a world class education, living wages that support families, a clean environment and a multimodal transportation system that meets the needs of all Minnesotans. These are just a few policies in which we can make a positive difference for everyone living in our state. I’m eager to get started.”

Rep. Bernardy encourages community members and Minnesotans to contact her at the Capitol at 651-296-5510 or at rep.connie.bernardy@house.mn.
