Definition of Data in School Consolidation Table

Term Definition
Average Daily Membership 1 Average number of students in membership during the school year. The data for 1989-1990 represents the total number students currently enrolled in the district the data for 1997-1998 represents the total number of students served by the district.
Pupil-Staff Ratio 1 The average daily membership of resident and nonresident students enrolled in the school district divided by the number of licensed professional staff.
Percent Transported 1 The percentage of resident public school students eligible to be transported to and from school.
Open Enrollment Students In 2 The number of nonresident students who attend the district through the enrollment options program.
Open Enrollment Students Out 2 The number of resident students who attend school in another district through the enrollment options program
School Buildings 3 The number of public elementary and secondary schools in the district.
Per Pupil Measures The per pupil measures are calculated by dividing total expenditures in a category by a measure of enrollment. For the 1989-1990 school year total pupil units is the enrollment basis. For the 1997-1998 school year ADM served is the enrollment basis.
Operating Expenditures 1 Per pupil measure of total operating expenditures for the school year including administration, support services, regular instruction, vocational instruction, exceptional instruction, instructional support services, pupil support services, operations and maintenance, food services, pupil transportation, and other operating programs.
Building Construction 1 Per pupil measure of expenditures for major capital projects funded by bonds, capital loans, facility grants, or down-payment levies.
Long Term Debt 1 Per pupil measure of the amount of long-term debt outstanding on June 30 of the prior year divided by that years enrollment measure.
Adjusted Net Tax Capacity 2 The calendar year tax capacity divided by the school year enrollment. This is an indication of the district's ability to raise revenue through property taxes.
Population 4 Total persons living in the district in 1990.
Percentage in Poverty 4 The percentage of the district population with incomes at or below the federal poverty threshold based on 1989 income. In 1989, the average U.S. poverty threshold for a family of four was $12,674.
Per Capita Income 4 Total 1989 earned and unearned income for persons 15 years and older living in the district divided by the number of persons living in the district. Excludes certain money from the sale of property, the value of certain government assistance, and gifts and lump sum receipts.
Households 4 Total number of households in the district in 1990. A household includes all the persons who occupy a housing unit.
% of Households with Children Ages 5-17 The number of households in the district with children (son or daughter by birth, stepchild or adopted of the designated householder) between the ages of 5 and 17. Excludes foster children.
Land Area The number of square miles in the district.
Population Density The number of persons per square mile in the district. The density is calculated by dividing total population of the district by the land area.
