Legislative Director to the Speaker - DFL Caucus


Full-time Legislative Director to the Speaker position in the DFL Caucus of the Minnesota House of Representatives.

Duties include: provide planning and strategy for the Speaker and the Majority Caucus; coordinate the introduction and passage of legislation designated by the Speaker to accomplish the caucus agenda and Speaker’s personal legislative agenda; perform legal research for the Speaker as requested, including research on parliamentary procedures; represent the Speaker at meetings with lobbyists and special interest groups on their legislative proposals; oversee the overall direction of the Research and Committee Administrator departments. Candidate must also work with caucus and nonpartisan departments to facilitate remote/hybrid legislative sessions and committee meetings.

Knowledge of state government and the legislative process essential. Communication skills, both written and oral, are needed to maintain effective liaison with legislators, agency officials, and other interested parties. Proven ability to work in a fast paced environment while maintaining a high level of discretion and confidentiality. PC experience and knowledge of Microsoft Word, Excel and/or other spreadsheet programs strongly desired. Frequent public contact; good human relations skills a must. BA/BS required. Advanced degree and previous supervisory experience preferred. Must be able to work long, irregular hours as needed.

Entry salary: $3,988.11 semi-monthly commensurate with experience. Excellent benefits.
