Assistant Editor - House Public Information Services


A full-time position is available with the Minnesota House of Representatives as assistant editor for the nonpartisan Public Information Services office. The office supports the mission of the House of Representatives through news and information services, including: reporting on committees and floor sessions, informational publications, photography and television coverage.

Responsibilities include:

performing first edit of materials for all department content, including news and information publications, website content and television production scripts;

covering legislative committees and floor sessions;

coordinating and gathering biographical information for directories and lists;

assisting with staff hiring and training; and

providing work direction and advice to department writers.

An ideal candidate will have excellent writing, editing and proofreading skills in a nonpartisan way; strong organizational abilities; and be able to work closely with the director and assistant director/editor in setting the editorial direction for department information. This position requires knowledge and familiarity with AP style, proven abilities with Microsoft Office word processing and database software, and knowledge and familiarity with social media platforms. BA or BS in communications and/or journalism strongly preferred.

Must work well with elected officials, legislative staff, the public and the media. Must have a good understanding of state government and the legislative process. Must be able to work long and irregular hours, especially during the legislative session, including nights and occasional weekends.

Entry salary range is $1,732.35- $2,129.09 semi-monthly, commensurate with experience. Excellent benefits.
