A full-time temporary position is available with the Minnesota House of Representatives as an administrative assistant for the nonpartisan Public Information Services office. The office supports the mission of the House of Representatives through news and information services, including: reporting on committees and floor sessions, informational publications, photography and television coverage.
This is a front desk, customer service position with duties that include: answering phone calls, responding to front desk inquiries, providing quality assurance and proofing of department content, and providing department support services during the 2018 legislative session. Must have strong public relations skills, excellent phone manners, an ability to do a variety of office tasks, and a willingness to take direction and requests from other staff. Accuracy and attention to detail are critical. Some irregular hours may be required.
A working knowledge of Microsoft Office word processing, database and spreadsheet software is required. Must have a demonstrated ability to adapt to changing technology and systems. Journalism and/or social media experience is a plus. Ability to lift up to 40 pounds for purposes of publication delivery and inventory management required. An understanding of state government and the legislative process is helpful.
Salary range is $717.20 - $888.00 per week, commensurate with experience. This position is anticipated to begin in mid-February and run approximately through the end of May, depending on session length.
