Administrative Assistant - Chief Clerk's Office


Full-time, nonpartisan position in the Front Office of the Chief Clerk’s Office in the Minnesota House of Representatives.

Duties involve frequent contact with the public, legislators and staff. Primary responsibilities relate to providing assistance in accessing information regarding the legislative process. These contacts are in person, on the telephone and electronically. Other assignments include: assisting Legislative Clerk with House floor activities, assembling/production of documents used by staff and members for daily House floor sessions; proofing and auditing of the House Journal and other legislative documents; and archiving and retrieval of documents from previous legislative sessions.

Applicants must have excellent oral and written communication skills and work well with people. Proven ability to remain objective, nonpartisan, confidential and professional regarding all assigned legislative duties and interactions with all members and staff. Ability to work effectively as a team member and to contribute to a pleasant, efficient internal work environment in the Chief Clerk’s Office.

A good understanding of the legislative process is essential. Accuracy and attention to detail are important. Familiarity with MS Office Applications is necessary. Must be flexible and willing to work long and irregular hours during the legislative session.

Entry salary: $1,805.23 semi-monthly, commensurate with experience. Excellent benefits.
