MINUTES

Senator Eric Pratt, Chair of the E-12 Policy Committee and Co-Chair of the HF140 Conference Committee, called the meeting to order at 8:10 AM on May 10, 2017, in Room NUMBER of the Capitol. A quorum was present.

The Committee Legislative Assistant noted the roll.

Members Excused:

House Non-Partisan and Senate Non-Partisan Research walked through the same/similar provisions for the House and Senate language.

Representative Bennet moved the adoption of the same/similar provisions. The motion was adopted.

Senator Eric Pratt opened the floor for testimony from stakeholders.

Denise Dittrich, Minnesota School Boards Association, provided an overview of MSBA’s position with the legislation.

Dr. Michelle Benagas, Professor at Hamline University in ESL Teacher Education, and Dr. Amy Hewett-Olatunde, ESL Teacher at LEAP High School in St. Paul, provided an overview of their position with the legislation.

Cindy Crist, MACTE, provided and overview of MACTE’s position with the legislation.

Beth Fraser, Commission of Deaf, Deaf-Blind, and Hard of Hearing Minnesotans, provided an overview of the commission’s position with the legislation.

David Aron, Attorney for Education Minnesota, provided an overview of Education Minnesota’s position with the legislation.

Brad Lundell, MN Administrators for Special Education, provided an overview of their position with the legislation.

Jan Alsweger, MN School Nurses Association, provided an overview of MSNA’s position with the legislation.

The meeting adjourned at 9:01 AM.
