MINUTES

Representative Mariani, Chair of Committee on Education Policy, called the meeting to order at 10:10 A.M., March 13, 2014 in the Basement Hearing Room of the State Office Building.

The Committee Legislative Assistant noted the roll.

Chair Mariani moved that H.F. 2004 be re-referred to the General Register.

Rep. Norton presented H.F. 2004 (Norton) Students’ proficiency in languages in addition to English further recognized.

Rep. Norton moved to amend H.F. 2004 (see attached amendment H2004A1) THE MOTION PREVAILED. THE AMENDMENT WAS ADOPTED.

Rep. Mariani presented the 2014 LEAPS Act

Chair Mariani moved that H.F. 2004, as amended be re-referred to the General Register

Chair Mariani laid the bill over.

Chair Mariani moved that H.F. 111 be re-referred to the General Register.

Rep. Ward presented H.F. 111 (Ward) Postsecondary Enrollment Options Act priorities modified.

Rep. Leidiger moved to amend H.F. 111 with the following oral amendment:

Page 1, line 17, delete “may not deny access to that” and insert “also must enroll in the”
Page 1, line 17, delete “to”
Page 1, line 19, delete “who”

The committee voted on the amendment. THE MOTION PREVAILED. THE AMENDMENT WAS ADOPTED.

Rep. Mariani moved that H.F. 3062 be re-referred to the Committee on Education Finance.

Rep. Mariani presented H.F. 3062 (Mariani) Native and English language development and academic needs of English learners, from young children to adults recognized.

Rep. Mariani moved to amend H.F. 3062 (See attached amendment H3062A10). THE MOTION PREVAILED. THE AMENDMENT WAS ADOPTED.

Rep. Mariani moved to amend H.F. 3062, as amended with the following oral amendment:

Page 50, line 16, delete “2”, and insert “6”

The committee voted on the amendment. THE MOTION PREVAILED. THE AMENDMENT WAS ADOPTED.
