STATE OF MINNESOTA FIRST MEETING
HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES EIGHTY-SIXTH SESSION
PUBLIC SAFETY POLICY & OVERSIGHT COMMITTEE
Representative Debra Hilstrom, Chair of the Public Safety Policy & Oversight Committee, started the first meeting at 1:03 pm on Tuesday, January 13, 2009 in Room 10 of the State Office Building, a quorum was present.
The Committee Legislative Assistant noted the roll.

Chair Hilstrom and the members of the committee introduced themselves for the record.
Committee staff also introduced themselves to members and the record.
Chair Hilstrom welcomed members, staff and the public to the committee, and provided the committee rules and procedures.
The following individuals provided an overview of Minnesota’s prison populations and the Sentencing Guidelines Commission and took questions from committee members:
Suzanne Alliegro, Director, Minnesota Sentencing Guidelines Commission
Jacqueline Kraus, Researcher, Minnesota Sentencing Guidelines Commission

Grant Duwe, Research & Evaluation Manager, Minnesota Department of Corrections
David Crist, Assistant Manager of Facilities, Minnesota Department of Corrections
Chair Hilstrom announced that the next meeting will be on January 15, 2009 in Room 10 of the State Office Building, immediately following Governor Pawlenty’s State of the State address.
Chair Hilstrom also announced that the following meetings will be joint hearings:
January 20, 2009; Public Safety Policy & Oversight and Public Safety Finance, meeting to take place during Public Safety Finance, at 8:30am
January 22, 2009; Public Safety Policy & Senate Judiciary, meeting to take place during regularly scheduled meeting time, 1:00pm
January 27, 2009, Public Safety Policy & Oversight and Public Safety Finance, meeting to take place during regularly scheduled meeting time, 1:00pm
