MINUTES



Representative Carlos Mariani, Chair of the K-12 Education Policy & Oversight Committee, called the seventh meeting to order at 8:39 AM on Thursday, January 29, 2009 in room 200 of the State Office Building.

A quorum was present.

Rep. Davnie moved that the minutes of January 28, 2009 be adopted. THE MOTION PREVAILED. THE MINUTES WERE ADOPTED.

Chair Mariani asked committee members to share their responses to yesterday’s questions about the purpose of the GRAD test, exit exams in general, and the meaning of a diploma from a Minnesota.

Commissioner Alice Seagren and Dr. Dirk Mattson, Director of Research and Assessment, Minnesota Department of Education, presented on the GRAD test and the future of exit exams in Minnesota.

Questions and discussion followed.

Dr. Stuart Yeh, University of Minnesota College of Education, presented on creating a fair and comprehensive exit exam in Minnesota.

Questions and discussion followed.


Ms. Cyndy Crist, System Director for P-16 Collaboration, and Ms. Linda Lade, System Director for College Transition, Minnesota State Colleges and Universities presented on measuring and improving college and work readiness in the Minnesota State Colleges and Universities. Handout: "College Readiness Testing Program for High School Students"
