MINUTES


Representative Tom Rukavina, Chair of the Higher Education and Workforce Development Finance and Policy Division, called the meeting to order at 1:00 P.M. on Thursday,
February 12, 2009, in Room 5 of the State Office Building.

The Committee Legislative Assistant noted the roll.

A quorum was present.

Chair Rukavina welcomed David Laird, President, Minnesota Private College Council, to the committee and invited him to begin his presentation.

David Laird, President, Minnesota Private College Council, introduced himself. Mr. Laird then introduced Vincent Hylla, University of St. Thomas student, and Jessica Brooks, Carlton College student, Sister Andrea Lee, President, College of St. Catherine, and Dr. Brian Rosenberg, President, Macalester College and said they would be providing testimony on behalf of the Private College Council. Mr. Laird provided testimony regarding Minnesota’s private colleges. Mr. Laird then invited the students to begin their presentations.

Vincent Hylla, student, University of St. Thomas, introduced himself and provided testimony regarding his personal student experience.

Jessica Brooks, student, Carlton College, introduced herself and provided testimony regarding her personal student experience.

Chair Rukavina welcomed Sister Lee to the hearing and invited her to begin her presentation.

Sister Andrea Lee, President, College of St. Catherine, introduced herself and provided testimony regarding the College of St. Catherine and the funding of higher education.

Dr. Brian Rosenberg, President, Macalester College, introduced himself and provided testimony regarding Macalester College and the funding of higher education.

Jeanne Herrmann, Minnesota Career Colleges, introduced herself and provided testimony regarding their association.

Jennifer Neri, student, Herzing College, introduced herself and provided testimony regarding her student experience.

Bonnie Carlson, student, Minnesota Career Colleges, introduced herself and provided testimony regarding her student experience.

Nichole Mohlenhoff, student at Globe University, introduced herself and provided testimony regarding her student experience.

Brad Malinowski, Student, Duluth Business University, introduced himself and provided testimony regarding his student experience.

Sam Chauman, Student, Art Institutes International Minnesota, introduced himself and provided testimony regarding his student experience.

Stacy Larson, Student, Rasmussen College, introduced herself and provided testimony regarding her student experience.

Rhonda Johnson, student, Rasmussen College, introduced herself and provided testimony regarding her student experience.
