LOCAL GOVERNMENT AND METRO AFFAIRS COMMITTEE

MINUTES

Representative Debra Hilstrom, Chair of the Local Government and Metro Affairs Committee, started the sixth meeting at 12:30pm on Wednesday, January 31, 2007 in the Basement Hearing Room of the State Office Building.

The Committee Legislative Assistant noted the roll.

A quorum was present at 12:34pm, and the meeting was called to order.

Faith Zwemke, the Pay Equity Coordinator of the Department of Employee Relations, presented an overview on pay equity in Minnesota, and took questions from the committee.

Patti Tanji, President of the Pay Equity Coalition of Minnesota, provided a presentation on the earnings gap and pay equity monitoring in Minnesota, and took questions from the committee.

H.F.180 (Sertich): Dissolving the Hibbing Area Redevelopment Agency; transferring assets and liabilities to the Hibbing Economic Development Authority.

Rep. Beard moved that H.F. 180 be recommended to pass and be placed on the General Register.

Rep. Sertich presented H.F.180.

Chair Hilstrom moved to amend H.F. 180 (see attachment H0180A2).

Rep. Buesgens offered an oral amendment as follows:
Page 1, Line 8, delete everything after "Subd. 7"
Page 1, Line 9, before "the" delete "agency, or"
Page 1, Line 11, after "the" delete "board, or"

Chair Hilstrom considered the oral amendment friendly and incorporated it into the amendment.
Chair Hilstrom moved the amendment as incorporated.
THE MOTION PREVAILED AND THE AMENDMENT WAS ADOPTED.

Rep. Beard renewed his motion that H.F. 180, as amended, be recommended to pass and be placed on the General Register.
THE MOTION PREVAILED AND THE BILL WAS PASSED.

Rep. Dominguez moved that the minutes of January 22, 2007 be adopted.
THE MOTION PREVAILED AND THE MINUTES WERE ADOPTED.

Rep. Dominguez moved that the minutes of January 24, 2007 be adopted.
THE MOTION PREVAILED AND THE MINUTES WERE ADOPTED.

Chair Hilstrom adjourned the meeting at 1:25pm.
