1.8    "Sec. 57. ADVISORY TASK FORCE ON MINNESOTA AMERICAN INDIAN
1.9TRIBES AND COMMUNITIES AND K-12 STANDARDS-BASED REFORM.
1.10    (a) The commissioner of education shall appoint an advisory task force on
1.11Minnesota American Indian tribes and communities and kindergarten through grade 12
1.12standards-based reform that is composed of the following representatives: Department
1.13of Education staff experienced in working with American Indian students and programs;
1.14Minnesota American Indian tribes and communities; Minnesota School Board Association;
1.15school administrators; Education Minnesota; the state Board of Teaching; the Minnesota
1.16Council on Indian Affairs; postsecondary faculty who serve as instructors in teacher
1.17preparation programs; local community service providers who work with Minnesota
1.18American Indian tribes and communities; and other representatives recommended by task
1.19force members. Task force members' terms and other task force matters are subject to
1.20Minnesota Statutes, section 15.059, subject to the limits of available appropriations. The
1.21task force must submit a written report to the education policy and finance committees
1.22of the legislature by February 15, 2008, that includes any recommended changes to the
1.23state's performance standards, content requirements, assessments measures, and teacher
1.24preparation programs to most effectively meet the educational needs of American Indian
1.25students enrolled in Minnesota schools.
1.26    (b) Upon request, the commissioner of education must provide the task force with
1.27technical, fiscal, and other support.
2.1    (c) The task force expires on February 16, 2008.
