MINUTES


Representative Cheryl Youakim, Chair of the Committee, called the meeting to order at 2:32 PM on January 16, 2019 in Room 5 of the State Office Building. A quorum was present.

The Committee Legislative Assistant noted the roll.

Representative Erickson noted a technical correction on the minutes for the January 15, 2019 meeting.

Representative Baker moved that the minutes of January 15, 2019 be approved. THE MOTION PREVAILED.

Presentations:

Emily Adriaens, Education Fiscal Analyst, and Tim Strom, Education Policy Legislative Analyst, Nonpartisan House Research Department gave an overview on Education funding.

Tom Tillberry, Minnesota School Counselors Association, gave an overview of the organization.

Scott Croonquist, Executive Director Association of Metro School Districts, provided an overview of the organization and its legislative priorities.

Grace Keliher, Director of Government Relations Minnesota School Board Association, gave an overview of the organization.

Fred Nolan, Executive Director Minnesota Rural Education Association, provided an overview of the organization and its legislative priorities.

Lars Esdal, Executive Director Education Evolving, provided background on the organization and its priorities.

Denise Specht, President Education Minnesota, testified on the organization and its priorities.

Valerie Dosland, Minnesota Association of School Administrators, provided background on the organization.

Terry Wilding, Superintendent Minnesota State Academies, and Amy Amundson, interpreter, gave testimony on the agency and its legislative priorities.

Jim Bartholomew, Education Policy Director Minnesota Business Partnerships, gave an overview of the organization.

Joshua Crosson, Senior Policy Director Ed Allies, provided background on the organization and its legislative priorities.

Kimberly Colbert, Coalition to Increase Teachers of Color and American Indian Teachers in Minnesota, provided an overview of the organization.

Kari Dennisen Cunnien, Executive Director Ignite Afterschool, provided an overview of the organization.

Mary Gilbert Dougherty, Legislative Liaison St. Paul Public Schools, gave an overview of the organization and its legislative priorities.

Shepard Harris, Minnesota Association of Independent Schools, Minnesota independent School Forum, Girl Scouts River Valleys, provided background on the organizations and their legislative priorities.

The meeting was adjourned at 4:00 PM.
