LEGACY FUNDING FINANCE COMMITTEE

MINUTES

Representative Dean Urdahl, Chair, called the first meeting to order at 12:46 P.M. on Monday, January 26, 2015 in the Basement Hearing Room of the State Office Building.

The Committee Legislative Assistant noted the roll.

A quorum was present.

Chair Urdahl welcomed members and staff, and gave a brief summary of his goals for the session.

Legacy Funding Finance members and staff briefly introduced themselves.

James Nobles and Cecile Ferkul from the Office of the Legislative Auditor gave an overview of the Legislative Audit Report.

Michelle Mitchell from Minnesota Management and Budget gave an overview of how Legacy funds are appropriated, and how spending is tracked.

David Kelliher and Steve Elliot from the Minnesota Historical Society gave an overview of past uses of Legacy funds, and presented the Minnesota Historical Coalition’s upcoming Legacy request.

Valerie Horton from the Minnesota Historical Society’s testified about the Minnesota Digital Library project.

Doug Gasek testified about Legacy fund use by the Preservation Alliance.

Dustin Heckman from the Goodhue County Historical Society spoke about how Legacy funds to the Minnesota Historical Society are allotted to local historical societies, and the projects they have funded in Goodhue.

Representative Heintzeman assumed the gavel at 2:11 P.M.

Representative Urdahl assumed the gavel at 2:13 P.M.

Rolf Hagberg from the Northern Bedrock Historic Preservation Corps spoke about the use of Legacy funds in encouraging young people to seek careers in preservation and enabling preservation projects throughout the state.

Jamila Boudlali, 2012 History Museum Fellow, and Merone Melekin, 2014 History Museum Fellow, spoke about the benefits of their Legacy fund enabled fellowships.

The meeting was adjourned at 2:24 P.M.
