1.4"(d) "Carbon-free resource" means:
1.5(1) a program or practice that reduces the need for energy generation by including one
1.6or more of the following:
1.7(i) energy storage; and
1.8(ii) energy conservation, energy efficiency, and load management as those terms are
1.9defined by section 216B.241, subdivision 1; or
1.10(2) a generation facility that uses one or more of the following:
1.11(i) renewable energy;
1.12(ii) nuclear energy;
1.13(iii) hydrogen technologies; and
1.14(iv) power generation utilizing carbon capture and storage technology, if that carbon
1.15capture and storage facility captures, on an annual basis, at least 80 percent of the carbon
1.16dioxide the facility produces from burning fuel to generate electricity; and
1.17(A) injects carbon dioxide captured into a geologic formation to prevent its release into
1.18the atmosphere;
1.19(B) makes commercial use of the carbon dioxide captured, including by transferring it
1.20to a third party for commercial use; or
1.21(C) employs a combination of items (A) and (B)."
