After nearly a decade in the House of Representatives, Rep. Mike Sundin (DFL-Esko) has decided not to return in 2023.

First elected in 2012, Sundin said in a statement Friday he will not seek re-election in 2022.

“I want to give my heartfelt thanks to the people of Carlton County and the surrounding areas who gave me the opportunity to serve our communities at the State Capitol,” Sundin wrote. “It’s been a tremendous honor to be a part of some important work at the Legislature, but it’s time for a new voice to step up in this role. We still have a great deal of important work left before us this session and I look forward to helping ensure all Minnesotans can have a brighter future.”

Representing District 11A, which includes Carlton and parts of Pine and St. Louis counties, Sundin has worked in a number of areas during his time at the Legislature, including as former chair of the House Labor Committee.

He currently serves as chair of the House Agriculture Finance and Policy Committee where work on a drought relief package continues this session.

Prior to his time in the Legislature, Sundin was a member of the Painters & Allied Trades Local and served on the Cloquet School Board.
