As you read this there are 17 days, or less, until the 2019 legislative session must constitutionally end on May 20. But there are also two remaining interim deadlines legislative leaders have imposed in an attempt to bring their work to an orderly end.

The first is Monday, May 6, by when legislative leaders are supposed to reach agreement with each other, and Gov. Tim Walz, on fiscal targets, and present them to their conference committee chairs.

Doing so would leave one week until the final interim deadline on May 13, by when conference committees are supposed to have completed their work and submitted reports to their house of origin.

That’s a lot of ground to cover and, with all the end-of-session fits and starts ahead, a relatively short time to do so. But instead of looking ahead, let’s look back at the week that was, and what you may have missed.
