'Starting Line:' Building trust between peace officers, communities

The men and women serving in law enforcement have an important — and difficult — job to do. It’s their job to help people, assist in emergencies and protect the community.

Many agree that the overwhelming majority of the men and women serving in law enforcement do their jobs very well, however, in the rare case when a peace officer violates the public trust, it can end up damaging the goodwill between law enforcement and the community.

This week on Starting Line we learn more about a proposal that would establish the “Peace Officer Excellence Task Force.” Sponsored by Rep. Michael Howard (DFL-Richfield), HF2324 hopes to build and maintain trust between peace officers and the community by providing more transparency to employment practices in police departments.
